Brush off the Sands of Summer and Revitalize your Relationships!


So the kids are back in school. Your partner is at work? The dogs set for the day? Mom okay? Sit back, take a deep breath. Relax for a moment and give a little thought to the sunny days and cool breezes of Autumn.

Fall is a glorious time of year with so much to do. But Mother Time is always frowning at us over her glasses! Yes, there are still carpools, sports, meetings, homework… it may seem endless.

But a key goal is for you to find balance and fun in the midst of it.

So here’s a fast and easy list of ideas you might plan to squeeze in:

Get yourself fit gradually. Start with a new routine of crunch-free abs. 15 minutes and you are done!

Make your 2+ doses of dark chocolate a week a real treat. However you like it. Did you know the British Medical Journal found evidence that people who indulged more than twice a week were 37% less likely to develop heart disease and 29% less likely to suffer a stroke.

Go for it. Doctor’s orders!

Carve out "bits" of quality time with your partner – "date" nights can be shortened to "date" hours, short nature walks, local events, even a visit a nearby winery. Or share a spa bath: Light candles, draw a bath, pour two glasses of wine and submerge yourself into total relaxation.

Take a hike. Two of you alone together tramping through the woods with few distractions can initiate important conversations, decisions and more intimate bonds.

Spend one to two-hour lunches, dinners, creative jaunts or just schedule coffee with your women friends.  Don’t let them fall through the cracks.A landmark UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special.    They shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are. By the way, they may do even more…

Take a risk and introduce a completely new outdoor idea to your friends or family. Buy a fire pit for cozy, fall evenings or take up a new sport. Hot and not so hot outdoor sports.

Apple-picking, pie-baking, pumpkin painting and decorating are timeless group activities. A few minutes on the Internet will give you gazillions of ideas. Things to do for two. Or, Disney Family Fun

Preserve a leaf. Bring a mixture of 2 parts water and 1 part glycerin (available in most pharmacies) to a boil in a saucepan (adults only). Pour the solution into a heat-proof container. Drop in a few brightly-colored leaves and gently submerge with a wooden spoon. Keep the container in a cool, dark place until there is a slight change in the leaves' tints. Then remove them and blot dry with a paper towel. Instead of turning brown and crumbly, the leaves will retain their brilliant clues. You will find all sorts of decorative uses for these leaves!

Whatever you do, it is all about you… and togetherness, if you choose. But don’t feel guilty for doing fun things with yourself – visit an herb garden and come home with lots of savory ideas; attend a class or a guided outdoor adventure. Use your photo cam or Instagram to create an album of fall scenes you can share.

If you stuff your day with small bits of pleasure as you can, your commitments and responsibilities will feel much lighter.
